don't use fresh, they pop or explode when cooked, I wonder if any of the answerers who said ';fresh'; has ever cooked a fresh cranberry?

Either fresh Cranberries or I would use a really fresh jam or non-syrup based compote. The jam makes it a little easier to spread around. Best of luck!
I think it'll taste better if the cranberries are fresh.
